Popular Baby Names In 2007

He's still there! Jack is the most popular baby boy's name for the 13th year in England and Wales. Grace is the most popular girl's name, with last year's favourite Olivia falling to third place. Ruby, which was number 50 only 5 years ago, has moved up to second in the top 100 baby girl's names.

Once again there was little change in the top 5 boy's names, the only change being Joshua and Oliver changing places at third and fourth respectively. Further down the list, Alfie continues to rise in popularity to 10th. Biggest mover was Jayden, up 36 places to number 32. Other baby boy's names increasing in popularity were Isaac, up 13 to 42, and Theo, up 19 to 73. New to the top 100 popular baby boy's names were Louie and Zak. Fallers included Callum, Leo, Owen, Brandon and Bradley.

For some reason there are always more changes in the top 100 baby girl's names. Strong movers up the table include Imogen, up 14 at 34; Sophia, up 12 at 37; Ava, up 23 at 41; Summer, up 15 at 44; Eva, up 24 at 52; Amelie, up 19 at 59, Zara, up 13 at 69; and Isla, up 24 at 70. The biggest faller was Courtney, down 19 at 81.

New entrants to the baby girl's top 100 include Lexie, Sara, Evelyn; and several older names making a comeback, including Julia, Maria, Victoria, and Rose. In Scotland the most popular baby boy's name last year was Lewis which held top spot for the third year running. Jack was a close second, followed by Callum. Sophie was the most popular baby girl's name, replacing last year's favourite Emma, which dropped to second.

Names climbing the boy's table include Calum, Ewan, Jake, Noah, Lennon, and Harvey. Fallers include Liam, Ben, Keiran, Jordan, and Shaun. Girl's names increasing in popularity in Scotland included Ruby, Kayla, Paige, Eva, and Madison; while fallers included Abby, Courtney, Taylor, Danielle, Alexandra, Kelsey, Stephanie, Chelsea, and Caitlyn. Parents in Northern Ireland again favoured Jack as the most popular baby boy's name, while Katie again topped the girl's chart. Baby boy's names to increase in popularity included Thomas,up 7 places to number 6; Dylan, up 6 at 9; and Charlie, up 7 at 13. Fallers included Callum and Luke. There were few big movers in the baby girl's table, although Anna moved up 10 places to number 10; and Eva rose 13 to 18. Niamh was the biggest faller, down 8 at 20.
